Admission Edits
[edit]I recently edited the article to read "Admission is by donation." It was changed/reverted to "free"; I changed it back thinking that maybe I forgot to hit save - so not trying to be a jerk!
The person that changed it to free wrote "Confusion addition, so does entry cost? What does donation mean in this context?"
They aren't wrong - this is a good question and may be confusing. The museum's official policy is that admission is by donation - so it is factually correct even if confusing. It is a variation of a model that includes "pay-what-you-wish" and "suggested donation of $X" - and this model is quite common at museums and other kinds of nonprofits where there is some kind of entry fee. It's a common way of saying that if you really can't pay, it's okay and we still want you to visit - but it costs a lot of money to maintain this cool experience and you really ought to consider pitching in if you can afford it because we rely on donations. Perhaps it's a cousin to your public radio pledge drive and model.
So, admission is not exactly free, and it would be factually incorrect to say that. If you're in the sector, it isn't confusing. If you're the average Wikipedia user, it may well be confusing. I'm not sure exactly how to word it but would love to hear anyone's thoughts and to know how other museum entries in Wikipedia treat this topic (if at all). ~2026-10953-50 (talk) 15:30, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
Name Change
[edit]The Demuth Museum just changed its name. The Demuth Foundation, which operates the Demuth Museum and the Lancaster Museum of Art, just launched a new brand. It is eliminating "Demuth Museum" and "Lancaster Museum of Art" and consolidating them under one name: Demuth Museum of Art.
If there's anyone out there with more experience than me, I think we should consider changing the entry name from Demuth Museum to Demuth Museum of Art. I would like to update the article a bit, but I don't want it to be confusing if the entry is still Demuth Museum. I will probably just add a very short section at the end as a placeholder.
Thank you!
