Types of delusions are misleading

[edit]

I been into page 89 of DSM V journal, the one from 2013. Not sure where these categories is coming from. They actually have a long list of types, in diagnose F22.

Article coverage

[edit]

Hi folks, while doing some edits elsewhere, I discovered that a number of articles related to delusional thinking seem to lean heavily, or rely entirely on the idea of it being representative of schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, which is dangerous for a number of reasons, none more so than the risk of driving misdiagnoses by doctors (simply by fueling a particular notion of what constitutes delusion), or misunderstanding by individuals attempting self-diagnosis.

This article has no coverage of autism or OCD, both of which can present with symptoms that are often misdiagnosed as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, yet uses the terms bipolar or 'schizo' more than 30 times. Beyond that, the coverage of psychotic depression and non-schizoid delusion is extremely limited. Though the article does quite well in other respects (scientific explanation, presentations, etc.), I really think there should be some type of notice that the article needs to be updated or is lacking in critical context, but wanted to bring it here to get the thoughts of others first to determine how best to go about it.

If you'd like a bit more context on this argument, you can check out the sources from my most recent edit at Synchronicity. In any event, I'll look forward to a response, and send my thanks in advance. CSGinger14 (talk) 06:10, 28 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
