Requested changes to the Dell Technologies page

[edit]

Hello, I lead social media for Dell Technologies. My contributions to this page are made on behalf of Dell Technologies. Due to my COI, I won’t be editing the article directly, and I’d like to request the following fact-based edits to this page. This will help represent the unique nature of the Dell Technologies company structure. For ease of implementation, I've mocked up the existing page with the requested changes below. Thank you.

Suggested changes to Overview

[edit]
no Declined Some of this is stale. Part of the last request was content that felt unjustified for inclusion in the intro. No changes I necessarily feel deserves implementing. DiscreetParrot (talk) 09:06, 18 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Suggested changes to 'Current Operations'

[edit]
no Declined Stale request. Don't see any changes worth implementing now. DiscreetParrot (talk) 09:00, 18 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Suggested changes to 'History'

[edit]

Please note that all of the following text and associated citations are carried forward from the Dell page and organized.

no Declined I've had a look through this, comparing with both the current text and partially the text at the time this request was made. The request seemed to want to duplicate a huge chunk of text from Dell#History, but with better use of sub-headings. I completely disagree with the idea of duplicating the history in both articles, and in fact I've just done extensive work improving the history sections of both articles, including specifically de-duplicating them. Some of the organisational changes might have been good suggestions with respect to the copy of the text as it was in 2020 (largely in the other article), but I don't see any elements of organisation suggested here that I'd like to implement now. I'm very happy with the current organisation resulting from my own work. One thing that I have actioned though, is that I noticed a paragraph about the sale of RSA. I did not see that in the 2020 text in either article, so it seemed to be a new suggestion, and I liked it, albeit it lacking any references. I have gone ahead and copied that into the text, with a marker for needing a citation. I'll try to look for one later if I find time (and remember), else hopefully someone else will. Overall there's not really anything to action here. DiscreetParrot (talk) 09:25, 18 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Simple updates to Current operations

[edit]

Hey there! I'm a Dell Technologies employee looking to improve the main company page. I know I'm not supposed to edit the page directly, so I'll put forward requests in this forum and allow independent editors review and (hopefully!) implement them. My first request, which concerns the Current operations section, is a fairly simple one:

  1. "Dell EMC Infrastructure Solutions Group" should just be "Dell Infrastructure Solutions Group." We've dropped the "EMC" from that division's name. (See these articles: Computer Weekly, TechRadar)
  2. The percentages of net revenue generated by the company's two main divisions are accurate as of 2019, but I've got FY 2024 numbers via our most recent 10-K. Net revenue figures for each division are on pp. 142. They are: CSG (55.3% of total revenues) and ISG (38.3%). (The "approximately 50%" figure for US revenue is still accurate, so no need to update that.)

If editors approve those two changes, I've got a fully coded passage in this dropdown. Feel free to copy/paste:

I'll now step aside and let the community review this request. If anybody has questions or concerns, don't hesitate to let me know. Thanks! JM with Dell Technologies (talk) 17:10, 29 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Proposing History rewrite

[edit]

Hi! I'm back with a more complicated request for the community. I'd like to replace what's contained in the History and IPO sections with a unified History that improves the section in the following ways:

  • Firms up sourcing throughout, replacing primary sources and sources with broken links with stronger ones
  • Arranges events chronologically, so they're easier to follow
  • Makes clear that, upon culmination of Dell's acquisition of EMC, Dell Technologies was formed as a parent company with both Dell and EMC becoming divisions within the parent
  • Removes irrelevant passages about Dell in 2013 and 2014, since Dell Tech didn't come into existence until 2016
  • Removes irrelevant passages about products, since those don't belong in a History section
  • Removes details about McLaren deal, since that passage cites a primary source
  • Incorporates IPO content under History heading

My draft makes a few other small changes, but those are probably best understood by looking at this comparison. The current History and IPO sections are on the left, and my draft is on the right:

I'll also provide a picture of what my History draft looks like by itself:

I believe I've put together a strong, well-sourced section that improves significantly upon what's currently in the article, but if any non-COI editors have questions or issues with my draft, please let me know. Thank you! JM with Dell Technologies (talk) 19:53, 3 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'm following User:Spintendo's instruction below and offering clarification on the passages my draft removes.
I hope this helps the community better understand why I've suggested cutting a few passages. If anybody has additional questions or objections, please let me know! JM with Dell Technologies (talk) 22:40, 9 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

🔼  Clarification requested

  1. The request seeks to remove information that is well sourced. The reasons for these removals are not entirely clear ("Removes irrelevant passages"). If passages are irrelevant, how and in what way they are irrelevant should be described in all instances where text is to be removed.[1] Reasons should be provided immediately adjacent to the text which those reasons seek to remove, so that it is more easily discerned which reasons apply to which portions of the text.
  2. When ready to proceed with the requested information, kindly change the {{Edit COI}} template's answer parameter to read from |ans=y to |ans=n.

@JM with Dell Technologies: I saw a way to salvage some of the info before doing any other editing. I restructured the info and created a Business section. This doesn't address the sourcing issues you highlighted, but does affect what has to be deleted, which was Spintendo's concern. With this edit, the pre-merger Dell and EMC history provides deal context, and doesn't seem out of place. I can take a look at your other requests later this week if nobody else gets to them first. STEMinfo (talk) 01:48, 15 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
User:STEMinfo: Thanks for taking the time to reorganize things. You make a good point that we probably don't need to lose all the pre-merger content. It's useful context. I'll wait for you to finish working through the rest of the request. If I can help your review process in any way, please let me know! JM with Dell Technologies (talk) 14:59, 16 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
@JM with Dell Technologies: I made one of the changes, to swap out the poor sourcing about the deal. I noticed you requested to add "the" in front of EMC Corporation, but Dell's own press release, previously cited, omits the "the", so I left it out. STEMinfo (talk) 00:39, 22 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
User:STEMinfo: Thank you so much for taking the time to address the edit requests for this article. I completely agree with your decision to omit "the" in front of EMC Corporation. Your judgment here makes perfect sense, and I value your attention to detail. Thanks again! JM with Dell Technologies (talk) 22:06, 22 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Request to update the Introduction section

[edit]

I am a Dell Technologies employee, and I’m reaching out with a few edit requests for the Dell Technologies article. I fully understand and respect Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines, so I will not be editing the page directly. Instead, I am submitting these requests here for consideration by independent editors.

Update the Introduction section to reflect the 2025 Fortune 500 ranking, separate the two current sentences to increase legibility, and add artificial intelligence and edge computing products and services.

Current text: Dell Technologies ranked 48th on the 2024 Fortune 500 rankings of the largest United States corporations based on its 2023 revenue; its products include personal computers, servers, monitors, computer software, computer security and network security, as well as information security services.

Proposed text: Dell Technologies ranked 44th on the 2025 Fortune 500 rankings of the largest United States corporations based on its 2024 revenue. Its products include personal computers, servers, monitors, computer software, computer security and network security, as well as information security and edge computing services. Dell Technologies personal computers and data infrastructure products and services are built with artificial intelligence capabilities.

These updates align with these sources: Fortune 500 list, San Antonio Express-News article, VentureBeat article, CRN article, and ITPro article.

Thank you for reviewing this request! Please ask if clarification is needed. TL with Dell Technologies (talk) 21:28, 3 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

TL with Dell Technologies - The lead is meant to just be a summary of what's in the article. Your request is to add standalone material to the lead, so that won't work. I recommend you put together a request to first update the business section with the new info - Fortune 500 rank, edge computing and AI integration. Please write the request with the sources inline, so it's easier to read. Right now, I didn't see anything in the sources you listed that says your PCs integrate AI. I wrote up some tips to show how to format the before and after text side by side. See User:STEMinfo/COI_edit_requests#Simple_connected_edit_request. Thank you for your help and providing templates for organized edit requests, User:STEMinfo. @TL with Dell Technologies: I was confused by this edit request, so I reformatted it to see how it would look in the article. I also removed the section on updated references because it redundantly duplicated the reflist in your proposed change. You don't need four citations for one minor claim about AI. One citation is enough, if it's independent of Dell and not churnalism of a Dell press release. Which one would you say is the most relevant? ~Anachronist (who / me) (talk) 06:11, 12 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your response and feedback, User:Anachronist! There are two AI claims that I am making. The ITPro article supports the AI claim for data infrastructure products and services. The FutureFive, CNBCTV18, and Mashable articles support the AI claim for personal computers products and services. Out of the three personal computers-related articles, I would say the CNBCTV18 article is the most relevant. Please let me know if you have further questions. TL with Dell Technologies (talk) 17:07, 15 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Request to update Infobox, History, and Business sections

[edit]

I am a Dell Technologies employee, and I’m reaching out with an edit request for the Dell Technologies article. I fully understand and respect Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines, so I will not be editing the page directly. Instead, I am submitting these requests here for consideration by independent editors.

1. Update the Infobox headquarters image to reflect the current logo.

I would like to request an update to the infobox image on this page. Currently, the infobox displays an image of Dell Technologies' headquarters that reflects an outdated logo. I propose replacing it with a more recent image that accurately reflects the current branding.

Proposed image:

File:Dell_Technologies_Headquarters.jpg

Justification: This image shows the Dell Technologies headquarters with the updated logo as it appears today, improving the article’s accuracy and currency. The file is available on Wikimedia Commons and is properly licensed.

 Done DiscreetParrot (talk) 20:02, 17 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

2. Relocate the May 2026 OpenAI partnership paragraph to increase clarity for readers.

I would like to suggest a structural change for the placement of the May 2026 OpenAI partnership paragraph.

Proposed change: Move the May 2026 OpenAI partnership paragraph so that it appears above the “IPO” subsection.

Justification: The OpenAI partnership is not related to Dell Technologies’ IPO. Relocating this paragraph would improve the article’s organization and readability by ensuring that information is grouped accurately.

Done Indeed, it was misplaced. There wasn't any good reason for that IPO subheading to exist though. I've done a lot of copy editing on the entire history section which resolves the issue. DiscreetParrot (talk) 21:19, 17 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

3. Update the Client Solutions Group bullet point in the Business section to reflect factual updates.

Current Text: Client Solutions Group (55.3% of fiscal 2024 revenues) – produces desktop PCs, notebooks, tablets, and peripherals, such as monitors, printers, and projectors under the Dell brand name

Requested Text: Client Solutions Group (55.3% of fiscal 2024 revenues) – desktop PCs, notebooks, tablets, and peripherals, such as monitors, printers, and projectors

−
Client Solutions Group (55.3% of fiscal 2024 revenues) – produces desktop PCs, notebooks, tablets, and peripherals, such as monitors, printers, and projectors under the Dell brand name
+
Client Solutions Group (55.3% of fiscal 2024 revenues) – desktop PCs, notebooks, tablets, and peripherals, such as monitors, printers, and projectors

Justification: On Dell.com, you can search and find that Dell sells printers and projectors of other brands. According to this Wikipedia article, “The organization's own website is an acceptable (although possibly incomplete) primary‡ source for information about what the company says about itself and for most basic facts about its history, products, employees, finances, and facilities.” Although primary sources are not typically allowed for edits, this is a basic factual update. TL with Dell Technologies (talk) 19:46, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Done Dealt with. DiscreetParrot (talk) 21:25, 17 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@DiscreetParrot Thank you for your collaboration. I appreciate your insight and help. TL with Dell Technologies (talk) 16:05, 18 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@DiscreetParrot Thank you for removing "under the Dell brand name" from the Client Solutions Group bullet.
I have two follow-up requests regarding the current wording of the Business section:
First, could you consider changing "which produces" to "which includes" in the Client Solutions Group bullet? While Dell manufactures many of the products listed, Dell also sells printers and projectors from third-party manufacturers such as Canon and Epson. As a result, stating that the division "produces" all listed products may unintentionally create ambiguity for readers. Using "includes" would avoid that issue while preserving the intended meaning.
Second, could you consider adjusting the following content in the Business section and Infobox to more clearly reflect Dell Technologies' current organizational structure?
• Change "Dell operates under two divisions:" to "Dell Technologies operates under two divisions:"
• Remove "Dell Inc., which includes the" from the Client Solutions Group bullet
• Remove "Dell EMC, which includes the" from the Infrastructure Solutions Group bullet
• Remove the links to the Dell and EMC articles from the Infobox's "Divisions" field
My concern is that references to "Dell Inc." and "Dell EMC" in the division descriptions may imply that these are still the operative division names. However, Dell Technologies has spent several years integrating and consolidating the legacy Dell and EMC brands. For example, based on this TechTarget article, Dell EMC World was renamed Dell Technologies World beginning with the 2018 event, reflecting the broader corporate branding and integration efforts.
Additionally, Dell Technologies' most recent Form 10-K identifies Client Solutions Group (CSG) and Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG) as the company's reportable segments and does not describe them as divisions of "Dell Inc." or "Dell EMC."
I believe these adjustments would improve clarity and better align the article with current sourcing and terminology. Thank you for your consideration. TL with Dell Technologies (talk) 19:02, 26 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
