'Deal flow is a term commonly used in finance and investment to describe the rate at which business or investment opportunities are received and evaluated. It is most often used in venture capital, private equity, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate development.

In this context, deal flow refers to the volume, quality and continuity of potential transactions available to an investor or organization, and is considered an important factor in decision-making and opportunity selection.

In a broader organizational sense, the term is sometimes used more informally to describe the movement of ideas, decisions or initiatives within an organization. In this usage, deal flow refers less to financial transactions and more to how opportunities and actions progress through teams and decision-making processes.

Applications

[edit]

The concept of deal flow has also been adopted in non-financial contexts, such as organizational development and leadership training, where it is used as a metaphor to describe behavioral and decision-making dynamics.

One example is the DEaLflow method, which applies the idea of deal flow to the analysis of motivation, behavior and collaboration within organizations. In this context, deal flow is used as a lens to examine how actions, decisions and development processes move through individuals and teams, rather than as a financial metric.
