I know this page is far from perfect, but I've decided to be bold and post it anyway. The concept is well-documented online, and I just need to take the time to properly source it and expand the page. I hope I marked it correctly as a stub. -ThatJosh (talk) 21:05, 20 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Why does this page exist?

[edit]

Sure, actors do often play younger characters, but the overall concept and name pretty much never exists outside of TV Trope. I've never heard of anyone other than TV Tropes utter the words "Dawson Casting".

And honestly, there are three major reasons why TV Tropes isn't something that should be reflected on Wikipedia:

1-TV Tropes is a very niche site. Very few are aware of it or even care about it, and the list gets even smaller for people outside the internet.

2-TV Tropes is a very biased site, making them incredibly questionable as a reputable source of information.

3-TV Tropes is a site for shits and giggles, not any kind of reputed news source. If we are drawing stuff from TV Tropes, we might as well draw stuff from Cracked, Urban Dictionary or 4chan.

Bottom line: we don't need an article on "Dawson Casting" any more than we need an article on "Frying the Coke" or "Prometheus School of Running Away From Things". --Agustinaldo (talk) 21:53, 24 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

1) I sourced it through other media outlets. 2) it seems notable 3) of the two pages you cite, one is a redirect, the other seems perfectly notable 4) if you want to talk about TV Tropes go to the page about it. 5) TV Tropes is not even mentioned in this article. At all. 6) What you refer to as what "we"/you "need" seems very subjective. ~2026-35976-24 (talk) 06:34, 25 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
