Notability

WP guidelines on Academic Notability say Academics meeting any one of the following conditions, as substantiated through reliable sources, are notable.

1.    The person's research has had a significant impact in their scholarly discipline  

See the review of his 2020 Mambila divination monograph: "The book, with its exceptional ambition and thorough ethnography, is essential for all social scientists studying divination."

2. Prestigious academic awards

2003-4 he was elected to be the Evans-Pritchard Lecturer, All Souls College Oxford.

He was winner of the 2023 Curl Essay Prize awarded by the Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland

7 Substantial impact outside academia in their academic capacity.

Some corrections to make

a) there's a typo in the heading Books and myographs should be Books and monographs b) Under Exhibits the Weston library show appears twice both first and last. These should be merged.

Also 12 feb Ive corrected the date range of the exhibit. How small an edit is acceptable without giving notice?

July 26 update

Some of the {{Citation needed} tags are not needed eg supervised by Esther Goody. His thesis was Mambila Traditional Religion: Sua in Somié. The supervisor is acknowledged in the pdf of the thesis so the 2nd citation establishes the supervisor as well

PLus make anthropological material available since before the web was invented. His first internet publication used Gopher to make one of the first sound recordings of a non-Indo-European language available online.

Why is the second citation needed there at all? It follows the citation which establishes the claim of the first query too.

I won't make these changes myself because of COI

Also I am not sure if the Primary sources tag is justified. The help examples talks about court records and the like. The closest we have here is using the Wolfson college record as evidence for a date for the fellowship. Not widely available I know. Not my call to make. Dz3 (talk) 20:13, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
