Personal life

[edit]

I added some words in the personal life section: I expanded a bit on his family and I mentioned his religious conviction, about which the media is reporting regularly (e.g. here, here and here). Gugganij (talk) 22:19, 11 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

I also included more evidence of his father's heritage. (e.g. here). Eruditescholar

This source only claims that Alaba's father is from Ogere. It doesn't mention his descent at all (especially no mention of Yoruba). So his Yoruban descent is still not sourced. His name might be a strong hint, but it's no proof. --Jaellee (talk) 19:22, 8 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
It is obviously undisputed that his father was from Nigeria - there shouldn't be any problem in mentioning this, or is there? --KnightMove (talk) 17:01, 3 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
No, the Nigerian father is undisputed (at least by me). --Jaellee (talk) 18:13, 3 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Not the youngest national team player?

[edit]

Hi folks. According to a report by Austrian newspaper Der Standard Alaba is not the youngest player to have appeared for Austrian national team. Should we change the article to reflect this or wait for confirmation by the Austrian FA? Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 10:32, 20 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

So Robby.is.on, hello there, was this matter resolved? Perhaps I could deliver my 3 Francs here? Do you mind? :-) - GizzyCatBella🍁 13:53, 6 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Fire ahead. Robby.is.on (talk) 13:57, 6 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
I will not unload the fire yet; firing will produce destructive flames :-), I'll tell you what I think instead, okay? I believe David Alaba is the youngest player to have appeared for the National Team and we should change the article to reflect this. - GizzyCatBella🍁 14:10, 6 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
"Fire ahead" is a phrase. See https://forum.wordreference.com/threads/fire-ahead.3476670/
Actually, right now the article does state that he is "youngest player in the history of the Austrian national team". I started this discussion to ask whether that should be changed based on the report by Der Standard. Which reliable sources is your "belief" based on? he plays in real madrid. https://twitter.com/realmadriden

Not done Please be specific about the change you are proposing. For what it’s worth, the cited source says his contract begins on July 1 and he will not join the club until his involvement at Euro 2020 is over. Ytoyoda (talk) 18:09, 28 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Supercopa de España 2023-2024

[edit]

Supercopa de España 2023-2024 must be included as it is included in Spanish lenguage. Even if he was injured, he makes part of the squad. But overall is what everyones does in wikipedia for every player for any trophy they win in the same situation. 83.32.253.159 (talk) 22:14, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

@83.32.253.159: That is not correct per this discussion here. Kante4 (talk) 22:30, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Full name

[edit]

Although the article lists his name as David Alaba with a source to support it, other sources list it as David Olatukunbo Alaba. For example, his (now archived) Bundesliga player page lists it as such - https://web.archive.org/web/20210427022234/https://www.bundesliga.com/en/bundesliga/player/david-alaba/profile - and his full name was previously listed as this in earlier versions of the article.

Should his full name be changed back to David Olatukunbo Alaba or kept in its current iteration? BigBlackCthulhu (talk) 14:25, 21 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

@BigBlackCthulhu I'll change the information. I was also curious about that information, and found out that Bundesliga match report also indicated his full name as 'David Olatukunbo Alaba'. It's a mismatch to use Spanish Association record for the player who is not a Spanish player. --YellowTurtle9 (talk) 20:45, 3 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
That seems logical! But it is worth noting much later now that on the 2026 World Cup Squad List, his full name is simply "David Alaba" there too. BigBlackCthulhu (talk) 21:15, 3 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hmm... Also I found that In Austrian Football Association also indicated that his full name is simply David Alaba. But it writes Saša Kalajdžić as the name in more German style "Sasa Kalajdzic", so not so sure to conclude whether that information is reliable or not. --YellowTurtle9 (talk) 11:43, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@BigBlackCthulhu I found the official personal Internet page of Alaba, and here says his name is also David Alaba. So thinking about the references, I first thought his official name is David Alaba excluding "Olatukunbo", but what I've found in the talk in the Deutsch Wikipedia, Austrian Football Association's record also has flaws in it, so his full name might be "David Olatukunbo Alaba", according to the german news about him. --YellowTurtle9 (talk) 07:55, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
