Then I suggest you rewrite it based on whatever newer, peer-reviewed articles are available. But marketing materials like industry whitepapers are really not useful sources. MrOllie (talk) 15:47, 11 April 2022 (UTC)

European Data Spaces

The EU is currently investing heavily into Data Spaces, seeing them as a key enabler for industry digitalization.

• The following associations are involved: BDVA, IDSA (started this line of work in 2014), GAIA-X, ADRA, DSBA
• There's a lot of serious work being done, both technical (https://internationaldataspaces.org/publications/ids-ram/), legal and business work.
• About 10 data spaces are in the works; eg I know of 4 Horizon Europe projects (~10MEUR each) working on EU Energy data space

@Saragommezz, MrOllie, Rosguill, NikkiDataSpace, Duncan.Hull, Triadic2000, Tourorist, Beetstra, Aramallo, Biogeographist, Kku, and Padgriffin:

Do you think this article talks about the same topic and can be expanded? Or should we start a new article?

• AFAIK, EU data spaces are not yet covered in Wikipedia and Wikidata, not even the above associations
• There's just https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110739430 with a DE page https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobility_Data_Space; listed as a subclass of https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q370685 (which points to this article)

PS: is there a relevant project I can ping?

Can you please list the independent secondary sources that comply with Wikipedia's sourcing guidelines that have become available? Remove external links section

• Reason for the change: The only external link no-longer leads to relevent content.

Add short description

• Specific text to be added or removed: Add short description "Abstraction in data management"
• Reason for the change: WP:SHORTDES, "Each Wikipedia article should include a concise explanation of its scope in the form of a short description".

Reposition references

• Specific text to be added or removed: Reposition existing references.
  • Belhajjame 2010 & 2013 - Move both to end of paragraph 1, sentence 2.
  • Talukdar 2010 - delete, the paper explicitly states that it is not talking about dataspaces.
  • Sarma 2009 and Franklin 2005 - Move to the end of paragraph 3
  • Howe 2008 - Move to the end of paragraph 2
  • Dong 2008 - Delete, mentions DSSP once, duplicating Sarma 2009, so not needed
  • Dong 2007 - Leave as is

• Reason for the change: There is no need for eight references (WP:OVERCITE) for the first three sentences. Many of the sources have the same authors (e.g. Dong, X. and Belhajjame, K.) and contain very similar wording. Some can be more appropriately used to reference other sections.

Partly done All done except #1. A page number was not provided with the reference (a reference which is 7 pages long). That actual page where the alleged copied-and-pasted text resides needs to be provided with the request. Data spaces

Hi everyone,

data spaces became a hot topic in the last 2 years. The EU data act describes a new data strategy to develop a free flow of data with data spaces.

It seems this page describes an older concept.

Page Dataspaces need to be updated

The state of this page describes academic ideas between 2005 to 2013, but didn't consider the current development in data spaces from 2017 to today. MaBuRoth (talk) 13:39, 12 May 2024 (UTC)

Indeed, the concept of data spaces and related terms are evolving fast. The latest definition of a data space defined by the Data Spaces Support Centre (dssc.eu) defines data spaces as "Interoperable framework, based on common governance principles, standards, practices and enabling services, that enables trusted data transactions between participants.". The DSSC defition is meaningless. Just burocratic jargon. The current wikipedia en English is much more understandable than the Spanish version, for instance, which has the meaningless burocratic jargon in it. 89.29.237.194 (talk) 09:54, 24 January 2025 (UTC)

Rated this page as a Start class because while it is well-sourced it doesn't actually define what a dataspace is: I think that puts it under "Most readers will need more". Since the overall definition is pretty abstract, it is probably worth focusing on the more concrete aspects, like the Dataspace Protocol and Reference Architecture Model when discussing the technical side. That way it can be described more concretely (analogous to describing FTP rather than the general concept of 'File Transfer').
