Contemporary Belgian press reports and judicial records relating to the so-called ‘Affaire Gherardi’ show that Giorgio Gherardi was prosecuted before the Tribunal correctionnel de Bruxelles in connection with the collapse of Crédit Commercial et Financier (CCF) and related entities.
According to reporting on the judgment delivered on 29 June 1989, Mr. Gherardi was found guilty of multiple financial offences, including fraudulent bankruptcy and misuse of corporate assets, and was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment with suspended sentence.
