Notability

[edit]

@Mushy Yank: I did consider this beforehand, including the fact someone (in this case, you), would assert the passing of WP:NACTOR as a reason to retain. Of course, whether a person passes WP:NACTOR is not a solid indication of notability (indeed, the page itself makes this clear) and removal of the PROD should have actually addressed the concerns, rather than referring to a guideline which I have reservations about this subject passing. I can find so very little in the historic newspaper archives about this person specifically (after removal of material about similarly named people) but nothing that shows they were notable as an actor. I have written a fair few biographies on actors/actresses of late, particularly from the 19th/early 20th century, so i'd have very much liked to develop this, if it were viable, which it doesn't seem to be. @Bungle,I recommend you take this article to AfD. I can’t speak for @Mushy Yank, but sometimes I contest a PROD not because I’m sure the article is a keeper but because it’s borderline and needs more eyes on it through an AfD. I considered contesting this PROD for that reason (but ultimately took a pass).

Hello both and thank you for your concern.
Has Hanlon had significant roles in notable films? Yes. Does the guideline say he may be considered notable in this case? It does. Will the article remain rather short? Probably. I don't think Afd is necessary in this case (Why take to Afd a page that the guideline indicates we can retain?), but that's just me. Best, -My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 16:13, 8 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
A little off-topic but I'd be curious to know what Hanlon did with the rest of his long life. He did just 3 movies in short succession- why'd he stop?
Without more sources, we'll never know, I reckon.

Honestly, i'd really relish the opportunity to develop another actor biographical article (my most recently ones being Allene Crater, William Hall (actor, born 1903) and Gisela Werbezirk, among many others), however I am just not seeing the source material for this individual, or the sufficient coverage that makes them notable, not simply to verify they had this very short career. I feel far too much emphasis is placed on WP:NACTOR here, however it does say that the roles/participation should be significant - were they? Bungle (talkcontribs) 18:08, 8 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
User:Bungle, Late arriving comment but before removing the speedy, I looked into his roles and for The Great Problem and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1916 film) they were indeed significant. Newspaper and magazine archives may be your best bet for finding contemporaneous coverage, but many have yet to made searchable through optical character recognition so that could end up being time-consuming if you pursue it. 2601:5CC:8300:A7F0:B425:7B63:A013:9724 (talk) 03:13, 10 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
