Obvious missing thing

[edit]

It seems a little weird that there are lists of licensed and other appearances and parodies and all, but no list of actual appearances in the show, perhaps marking which ones are Dalek-centric stories (The Daleks, Genesis of the Daleks, etc.) and which are cameos or incidental appearances (like the dead one in The Space Museum, or when all the Doctor's enemies arrive in The Pandorica Opens) 2601:1C2:5000:1472:BC41:413C:8064:C97E (talk) 09:03, 23 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

The list is sort of present in the fictional history section but there is a navbox at the bottom (not visible in mobile view unfortunately) to all the TV appearances. GraemeLeggett (talk) 11:34, 23 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

The Big Fat Anniversary Quiz

[edit]

I was looking at the Non-Doctor Who Cameo appearances section, and found a lack of the time when a Dalek read out a question on The Big Fat Anniversary Quiz, shown on Channel 4 on the 2nd January 2015. Should we include this, becuase I think we should. WikiFan2456 (talk) 19:22, 13 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Origins of the word.

[edit]

So in my reading I found another UK author who actually penned the term Dalek as a term for androids in 1957 in the opening of the book "The Uncertain Midnight" by Edmund Cooper. The text reads: "These benevolent daleks are more intelligent, more amusing, more likeble, more human than the effete descendants of their original creators."

Apparently the book sold very well in the UK on release in 1958, so it seems oddly specific for a name in a book he might very well have read and since he admits to lying once about the origins, I have to wonder if this is actully the source but Terry Nation didn't want to risk a copyright risk? IDK. Quite odd and probably worth some research. BcRIPster (talk) 01:47, 25 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Ballet style

[edit]

Regarding this...

He was also inspired by a performance by the Georgian National Ballet, in which dancers in long skirts appeared to glide across the stage

I don't have access to the cited source [Howe (1997), p. 80] and I assume that it does indeed specify the Georgian National Ballet, but let me point out that the troupe most associated with the relevant style is the Beryozka. I wonder if Howe's 1997 source has misremembered the name after a gap of over 30 years. On the other hand, possibly at some time between 1948 and 1964 the Georgian National Ballet picked up the technique from the Beryozka. It might be possible to work out which of the two groups had performed live or on television in the UK in the relevant period. In any case it would be nice if there were some article or section in Category:Dance technique describing the relevant style, which this article could then link to. jnestorius(talk) 12:22, 23 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

GA criteria commentary

[edit]
  • Article looks pretty stable.
  • Images look fine.
  • Sources appear to all be reliable.

Article commentary

History and appearances

[edit]
  • References 7 and 32 appear to be duplicates of each other, please address.
  • They also have a whisk-like gunstick weapon. What does this mean; what is a gunstick? This could use either an explanation or a wikilink.
  • You introduce Skaro as an irradiated planet in the first paragraph of the Classic Era section; I am not a Doctor Who fan so I have no idea if this is accurate, but if Skaro can be described as irradiated in general, then this description should perhaps be moved.
  • Is the city on Skaro named?
  • Why are the Daleks on such bad terms with the Doctor?
  • The Daleks kill antagonist the Master could be reworded, as it sounds clunky.
  • the Daleks fought in a war against the Time Lords, which was pre-meditated by the Time Lords' interference in the Daleks' creation. What did the Time Lords do to interfere?
  • Last Great Time War link should be removed since it just redirects to this page.
  • An incarnation of the Doctor who fought in the War used [...] should be changed to [...] fought in the War, known as the War Doctor, used [...]. No reason why this should be pipelinked IMO.
  • The Daleks were thought destroyed by the wider universe. Is this correct British English?
  • In the episode, a sole survivor of the war wound up on Earth - "wound up" sounds too informal
  • The two subsections under "Other appearances" should perhaps be merged into one, especially since the second one is only one paragraph long.

Will work on the rest later. In solidarity, Gommeh (talk 🎮 sign) 15:06, 20 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Gommeh most of these have been done or expanded upon for clarity. On a few points:
-The city has received names in spin-off material, but these are not consistent and on-screen it has only been referred to as a Dalek city with no specific name, so I figured including a name here would likely be more confusing than it's worth. I feel it's simpler just referring to it as a city.
-"Why are the Daleks on such bad terms with the Doctor?" Not quite sure what this means or what you want me to do here. The article discusses the history of the characters and the Doctor's interactions with them, so I'm not sure what further information is necessary in describing this.
-I'm a bit confused on the Time War link issue since that links to the Time Lord article, not the Dalek one? Not sure what the issue is there.
-Unless there's a word I am unfamiliar with a different spelling for, I'm pretty sure that sentence conforms to British English (Correct me if I am wrong obviously).
Ping me once further sections have been reviewed and I will handle them as soon as possible. Magneton Considerer: Pokelego999 (Talk) (Contribs) 23:28, 20 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Conception and design

[edit]
  • Did Newman ever indicate why they thought the show should lack monsters or aliens?
  • Perhaps dance troupe should be wikilinked.
  • Maybe the picture should be adjusted so the caption reads that the people are doing the Nazi salute. This is up to you though. I see this is wikilinked in the 1970s section.
  • "Un-wieldy" sounds weird, so I would consider rewording.
  • The Daleks became symbolised "the dangers of prejudice and singlemindedness" is grammatically incorrect. Perhaps change this to The Daleks became symbols of "the dangers of prejudice and singlemindedness".
  • What is Shawcraft Models? Is it important to mention them in the article?
  • What does "speedily developed" mean specifically?
  • Negotiations for the Dalek spin-off series, after years of discussion, eventually fell through. This could be reworded, perhaps to After years of discussion, negotiations for the Dalek spin-off series eventually fell through.
  • television series in America should maybe be changed to television series in the United States.
  • What are Ogrons, other than servants of the Daleks? Are they significant? You write the name at the end of the first 70s paragraph but the word "Ogron" isn't mentioned again in the rest of the article; readers may want to know more about them if there is more information available.
  • Nation created a situation- a stalemate between the Daleks and a race called the Movellans- which would justify the return of Davros. The two dashes here should be replaced with {{em dash}}. Additionally, who/what are the Movellans?
  • Many ramshackle Dalek casing props: Not sure if "ramshackle" is the right word here. Perhaps find a synonym?
  • Nation supervised production and advised Saward and the team directly; he specified directly that Davros could not be killed and the Dalek Emperor, initially in the script, could not be included Any reason why he did this?
  • Saward wrote while amending specific disdains he had for the prior story. Were these disdains ever specified?
  • No other issues in this section, it was very well written and informative. I as someone who has never really cared for Doctor Who could follow it pretty easily with the exception of a few plot points mentioned above.

Reception and analysis

[edit]
  • Why was the Dalek playsuit redesigned? I mean more specifically than for safety concerns. Why was it seen as a danger?
  • "Dalek nationi" should be in italics since it's the scientific name of a species. Pretty sure there's a guideline for this somewhere, but I don't normally edit science articles.
  • The fact about the word Dalek being added to the Oxford English Dictionary, I think, belongs closer to the sentence They have been stated by BBC News to have become a part of British heritage.
  • In the last two paragraphs of the analysis section, author names should be stated in the prose if known.

@Pokelego999: That's all from me, please ping me when these are done and I can get started on a source review. In solidarity, Gommeh (talk 🎮 sign) 18:32, 21 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Gommeh I believe all relevant adjustments have been made. On the Davros/Emperor point, the source doesn't specify further, so I cannot clarify on that point as of now I am afraid. Let me know once the source review is finished and I'll do my best to address any issues as soon as possible. Magneton Considerer: Pokelego999 (Talk) (Contribs) 04:09, 22 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Several sources are missing parameters, such as author names. Archive links, where available, need to be added. I've run the IA bot on this page, but I would recommend going over every source and making sure all applicable fields are filled.
A random spot check (~5-10% of the sources in the article) turned out well; I see no issues there as far as verification goes. Once the citation issues above have been addressed, let me know and I'll be happy to pass. In solidarity, Gommeh (talk 🎮 sign) 15:57, 23 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Gommeh just wrapped up the archivals. Should all be archived, and all citations should have needed parameters; anything missing one should just be a case where no author or date was listed in the source now. If given, all fields should be filled in though. Magneton Considerer: Pokelego999 (Talk) (Contribs) 21:24, 23 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
