First sentence is in the present tense

The first sentence of this article starts off in the present tense. This implies the scam is a continuing one. While WP:TENSE advised that articles should be written in the present tense by default. When one is writing about past events the past tense should be used. It is not clear from the article that the scam has actually ceased or if it still continues under a new guise. So I have added an applicable cleanup tag. If this is historic the word "is" in the lead should be replaced by the word "was". - Cameron Dewe (talk) 08:00, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
