FAQ
[edit]- Q: Why does this article cover both DC Films and DC Studios when it is titled "DC Studios"?
- A: DC Studios is the successor to and replacement of DC Films that inherited oversight of all DC Comics adaptations, including those by the former studio (unless otherwise clarified). Multiple sources have described it as a "rebranding" or a "newly created entity". In accordance with Wikipedia's article title policy and naming conventions, such as WP:NAMECHANGES, DC Studios has usurped DC Films in terms of primary notability, but there is no consensus to split the contents of the article based on the production companies because of their overlapping material. See the archived discussions for more.
- Q: Why are DC Comics adaptations released since 2024 that feature the new DC logo not included in this article?
- A: This article is for all the films and television series directly produced by DC Studios and its predecessor, DC Films. While DC Studios inherited oversight over all DC Comics adaptations, reliable sources are still required to explicitly verify that DC Studios has actually received a production credit on the associated work. Inferring DC Studios's potential involvement in a project because it features the post-2024 logo for all DC Comics operations or solely mentions "DC" in credits or sources is WP:SYNTHESIS. "DC" itself often refers to DC Comics or DC Entertainment, when applicable.
- Q: What classifies a DC Studios release as part of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) by DC Films, the DC Universe (DCU) by DC Studios, or through the "DC Elseworlds" label?
- A: DC Films was responsible for producing all of the DCEU films after its inception in 2016, from Suicide Squad to 2023's Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom; Man of Steel (2013) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) are not DC Films productions given they were released before its formation, while Joker: Folie à Deux (2024) was produced without the involvement of DC Films or DC Studios. DC Films also produced the standalone films Joker (2019) and The Batman (2022), which were retroactively classified as Elseworlds releases. DC Studios inherited oversight of some DC Films productions but is not credited with producing the DCEU entries. Any new DC Studios release is generally presumed to be part of its principal flagship franchise, the DCU, unless otherwise specified under the Elseworlds label.
- Q: Why is DC Studios not listed as being part of Warner Bros. Pictures?
- A: DC Studios is organized within the corporate structure of Warner Bros. Discovery as a direct subsidiary of its parent company, operating as a sister unit to Warner Bros. Pictures and HBO since 2022. DC Films was originally part of Warner Bros. Pictures.
