Move?

I would like to propose that we move this article to Cyclone Katrina as after examining the meteorology behind the systems i have realsied that it was only a remnant of K that became VC. As a result i would also like to move the focus on to just Katrina, but keep a few bits relevant to Victor Cindy in the article.Jason Rees (talk) 21:04, 3 April 2015 (UTC)

@Jason Rees: Since this article will focus on Katrina, I think that Victor-Cindy sould be only mentioned on about its formation from Katrina's remnants. Since Victor-Cindy had little relevance on Katrina, most of its info should be realocated to its sections on both Aus and SWIO season's articles. ABC paulista (talk) 01:11, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

Move question (not a formal request yet)

Given the precedent in Amanda/Cristobal & Gulab/Shaheen, I would like to ask: is it okay to change this article's title to "Cyclones Katrina and Victor-Cindy"? What happened here was very similar to the articles mentioned. Vida0007 (talk) 03:50, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

• Strongly Support – Reformatting this article into a combined title, with the title Cyclones Katrina and Victor–Cindy. The systems are basically related (likely a redevelopment of the same storm), even if it isn't officially recognized as the same tropical cyclone. Both phases of the storm also affected Australia, which means that there are overlapping impacts as well. The story of the storm is basically incomplete without including the details on both Katrina and Victor–Cindy, and as such, the article can't make it to GA/FA as it is right now. I believe that renaming and reformatting this article is what needs to happen. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 17:01, 14 October 2021 (UTC)
• Comment - Im not so sure that Victor-Cindy had any impacts and if there will be enough MH to justify putting Victor-Cindy in the title. If Victor-Cindy is fully integrated here, it should be mentioned on the title, otherwise the title could misled the reader into believing that, either all its contents are only about Katrina, or that Victor-Cindy was considered the same system as Katrina. Is Victor–Cindy related?

There's a discussion at Talk:Cyclone Freddy about mentioning this article in Cyclone Freddy. One commenter said cyclones Katrina and Victor–Cindy are not the same system. After some digging, I found that the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM), especially through the report for Cyclone Victor , says that Cyclone Victor–Cindy was "most likely" formed from the remnants of Cyclone Katrina. That implies a small possibility that these storms may not have been the same system. Not confirmed, but possible. The source also states that Cyclone Victor–Cindy did not cause any known impacts, which means that Cyclone Katrina's impacts can be distinguished from Cyclone Victor–Cindy, and keeping the two storms in one article is not necessary.

Because of the uncertainty of the two storms' relations by the BoM, I don't believe Cyclone Victor–Cindy should have significant coverage in this article. I suggest the content about Cyclone Victor–Cindy be moved to 1997–98 South-West Indian Ocean cyclone season, and the article title be renamed to omit Cyclone Victor–Cindy.

Since Katrina was retired for its impacts and was a very distinct entity, I think the article should only be focused on Katrina, as I've said before. I don't think it's as much of a Cristobal/Amanda precedent, as Victor-Cindy barely had any impacts. It's more like Hurricane Iris and Tropical Storm Manuel, both of them loosely related, but distinct enough to be considered two tropical cyclones. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:09, 6 January 2026 (UTC)

Neutral – as long as the articles that cite both systems, in relation to one another, do enough to make it clear for the reader that they're considered to be distinct systems from each other, and I feel that this article satisfy this condition, thus I'm content either way. To clarify, I'm not advocating for every mention of Cyclone Victor–Cindy to be removed from the article. Their connection should be mentioned, but Cyclone Victor–Cindy's entire meteorological history does not need to be included. FourNoddlers (talk) 03:12, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
