As with Maquinna, Wickanninish, Khatsahlano and other historical figtures, these names are actually something like titles and can be inherited or otherwise tarnsmitted; there have been a number of men having these names, and the same may be true of Cumshewa. however, the poopulation at the dawn of the marine fur trade was, according to the most extreme estimates, 60,000, with less than 1,000 surviving by 1900, so the lineage/village group/moiety may have been long-lost; perhaps a Haida contributor to Wiki might know better; I have no idea what hte linguistcally-correct rendering of Cumshewa is, i.e. in proper Haida spelling; if anyone comes across it please add it. Cumsehwa Head is an important landmark and maybe should have an article; Cumshewa Inlet was the location of Gold Harbour, British Columbia, which I'm about to write a stub for (surprising the number of mines in the Charlottes; this was the first lode mine anywhere in BC, as it turns out).Skookum1 (talk) 01:58, 1 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
