Shining & shinning

[edit]

Most species of Cryptoblepharus have common names which include the term shining. However, several species have common names which include the term shinning. Is shinning an Australian alternate spelling of shining? Or does shinning refer to shinnying up a tree? Or is shinning simply a spelling error, a corruption of shining? Clarification from a native Australian herpetologist would be helpful. Lyttle-Wight (talk) 11:47, 4 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
