Crossing gene lines

[edit]

    I've removed with extreme prejudice

The genetic recombination (e.g., breeding) of two genetic lines to produce a hybrid] organism

which is a gross misstatement of the facts, probably resulting from superficial awareness of recombinant DNA technology.
As the formerly lk'd article makes clear, genetic recombination is an aspect of all sexual reproduction; in fact (i'm pretty sure) it's part of all eukaryotic cell division, e.g., for tissue growth or repair.
