This page should be expanded as it is of great importance to Wikipedia:WikiProject_Yorkshire i.e Topographic Yorkshire, wiki/Pennines particularly; also the history of transportation routes of England I'm about to start a page wiki/Aire Gap and together Craven Fault and Aire Gap are the cause of the district of Craven Kildwyke (talk) 13:35, 3 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

I'm not convinced that the latest edits have been particularly useful in recording what is after all a geological feature.

The open sentence "The Craven Faults are major cracks across the backbone of England that reformed the region dramatically" is not a good start. Faults should not be described as cracks; and they cannot be said to have reformed the region, as they are an inherent part of it.

The faults did not "exposed a wealth of minerals for miners". The subsidiary faults and joints were a conduit for super-heated connate fluids rising from the depths of the surrounding sedimentary basins, from which minerals were deposited. They certainly didn't expose lime.

"The Great Scar Limestone is exposed along the Middle Craven Fault at Malham Cove and Goredale Scar". Where is the GSL not exposed by the Middle Craven Fault?

The sentence "The vertical throw of the fault zone is about 1,800 m down to the south, but due to erosion of surface geological features little of that remains evident" doesn't make sense to me. The throw to the south is evident as one can see by the age of the rocks on either side of the fault zone.

The quotation from Darwin, although always somewhat dubious in its usefulness, has now become meaningless, as the section on weathering and erosion have been removed.

As far as the picture of Malham Cove is concerned, the caption which claims that it "reveals the Middle Craven Fault" is not correct. Although the cliff face may originally have formed as a fault scarp on the MCF, it has since retreated somewhere in the region of 600 m.--Langcliffe (talk) 08:59, 7 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

New article title

I've moved the page since there is no such entity as the 'Craven Fault' but on the other hand there is the CF System which comprises the North, Middle and South Craven faults. I've also made a start on making its content more accurate but there is some way to go yet. cheers Geopersona (talk) 20:07, 9 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
