No notability

[edit]

As far as I can tell, the term "county island" is only ever used in Arizona. Primarily in only one county, Maricopa.

Not notable enough to be defined with its own article, possibly as part of Unincorporated community

The article contains several examples (outside of Arizona) of County Islanding — including some in Tennessee, which I live within (and wrote herein). I would not suggest renaming nor merging this article — it is FINE AS IS.

The biggest problem with this article is a lack of relevant citations, but that can be a symptom of lack of notability. Only two of the examples have references, and while the Tempe example says that county islands are a common feature in there, the cited document contradicts that by saying there are "few remaining." The Springfield newspaper article doesn't use the term at all.

The existence of unincorporated enclaves within incorporated jurisdictions is widespread and in most places there's no specific term for it. It's a quirk of Municipal annexation in the United States and should be probably be a section of that article (which itself could use more citations).
