A Novice's questions
[edit]Are coronal holes permanent? How long do they last? Do the frequency of them give new information as to the lifespan of our sun, and its eventual burn-out however many milleniums from now? - permanent? No. They last a few weeks.
- Frequency. No idea. Probably not. Millions of years anyway,
- No direct relation to solar flares but they are the site of Coronal Mass Ejections, and hence Aurorae.

Flow Speeds of Solar Wind. Clarification wanted.
[edit]The second paragraph under the "Solar Wind" headline says:
"Wave-driven turbulent heating and Alfvén-wave pressure accelerate plasma along the weakly diverging flux tubes rooted in coronal-hole interiors, producing 650-800 km/s flow speeds near 1 astronomical unit (AU)." (emphasis mine)
How can a flow speed (unit km/s) be near an astronomical unit (unit of m) ? Kasekinome (talk) 10:23, 18 April 2026 (UTC)
- I presume they mean at a distance of about 1 au from the Sun, i.e. the Earth's orbit. Does that make sense? Skeptic2 (talk) 18:45, 18 April 2026 (UTC)
