Q: What is the correct way to pronounce Corn Du

A: 'Corn' as per common English word. 'Dee' as per river Geopersona (talk) 06:32, 7 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Incorrect. The 'o' in corn (Welsh) is akin to the 'o' in off (English), and the 'r' is trilled. So nothing like 'corn' (English) in terms of pronunciation.  Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.88.39.46 (talk) 16:03, 16 January 2016 (UTC) Reply
Quite true - I'd been focussing on the Du/dee element which I thought more likely to trip up non-Welsh speakers. As with other well-known toponyms arising in one language and oft-quoted in another, there is a genuine discussion to be had as to what constitutes 'correct' here, though I myself do in fact pronounce it as per the unsigned user and would encourage that pronunciation! Damming moraines

[edit]

There is a question as to the extent to which moraines dam the waters of the three lakes mentioned in the text, as opposed to the water simmply occupying the glacially scoured rock hollow in each case whilst the moraines simply wrap around the northern/northeastern sides of them. And in the case of Llyn y Fan Fawr in particular there appears on the face of it to be remarkably little morainic material on its 'outer' side giving rise to some discussion as to quite how it developed.cheers Geopersona (talk) 06:06, 6 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
