Merge Capitoline Hill
[edit]Separating this from the Campidoglio (a redirect to Capitoline Hill is a Wikipedism. It's the stairs to the Campidoglio, folks. The Cordonata has no separate being, no individual raison d'etre. And the very point of the stairs is precisely that the Campidoglio is not the "the heart of pagan Rome", as this text states, but now turns the sacred hilltop round to face Renaissance Rome. If this point is not currently made insistently enough at Capitoline Hill, let us improve it. But this is a classic and quite specific example, demonstrating how, by dividing up topics meaning is lost. --Wetman 23:14, 12 July 2005 (UTC).
Merge removed
[edit]I am sorry to contradict the author of this merge, but that on Capitol is only one ("Cordonata Capitolina") among the thousands of cordonate in Italy. Moreover, in Rome itself the Cordonata per antonomasia is not the capitoline one, but that on the Quirinal hill, which gives the name to a road too(Via della Cordonata).
