Confederacy v. Confederation

[edit]

Is confederacy an archaic term for confederation?

I was just going to ask about approximately the same, that is if it is the same or something else. When you compare the terms federation and federacy they differ in meaning. But what about confederation and confederacy? The explanations given are very confusing. Among other things it says that a confederacy (or confederation SIC!) may refer to a federacy. When I read the article about federacy it is quite clear that this is NOT the same as a confederation. Whether one of them is the same as a confederacy, I cannot say, as I dont really know the meaning of this word, and this article is more confusing than clarifying. Neither am I a native speaker of English, so I am not into the meaning of this word. The article is clearly contradicting other articles. --Oddeivind (talk) 18:29, 18 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Switzerland and Canada

[edit]

I don't think that Canada and Switzwerland qualify as confederations. They are federations, despite their respective official name.

After Abraham Lincoln died they stated that slavery is illegal and confederacy is a group of people that assinate government leaders or plain people.... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.85.120.202 (talk) 20:19, 3 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Clean-up

[edit]

This dab was tagged for clean-up in July 2009. No reason was given, but I assume it was because many entries contain the word 'confederacy' (or similar) but aren't necessarily known as 'confederacy'? What do others think needs improving here? Boleyn2 (talk) 08:49, 17 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
