There exists, on the international level, what they refer to as "good offices" (a neutral third party, such as the UN Secretary-General, tries to get disputing states or armed groups to come to a voluntary resolution of their dispute), but I don't actually know whether this tends to follow the model of conciliation or mediation. (I think which model is followed depends on what the neutral third party feels will work best in the circumstances.) Unfortunately I know nothing really about this except what I've read in some international law textbooks. -- SJK

What is conciliation

Conciliation invovles a third party who attempts to resolve a dispute by talking about the issues with the parties and suggesting ways inwhich the parties may resolve the dispute. The conciliator is actively invovled in the discussion but the parties make the final decision about how the dispute is resolved. the conciliator cannot force the parties to reach an agreement.

Differentiate from mediation

How is conciliation different than mediation? What is the relationship between these two concepts? Should the articles be merged? If not, please improve the article to clarify the differences. Daask (talk) 18:02, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
