When did concert saloons operate? The only date in this article is “as late as 1881.” It’s an American genre, so we can infer it didn’t begin before the American Revolutionary War. It is thought to have something to do with the English music hall genre, which dates from the “early Victorian” period according to that article. (Not super helpful. 1840s then?) I get that this kind of activity tends not to leave a vivid paper trail, but surely there’s a rough idea of when it thrived. — ob C. alias ALAROB 18:21, 20 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
