Inscrutable assertion in lead paragraph

[edit]

It says "'comprise' means 'that which encompasses the whole'". First, a verb does not mean a noun phrase. But I can't figure out what this is even trying to say. Atario (talk) 07:15, 13 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Godzilla truly had a stroke that day. Should be corrected now.

Context

[edit]

Could we say, for example, the solution comprises of several security products. The solution is composed of security product1, security product2 and security product3. Would that make sense? 216.213.134.10 (talk) 00:24, 30 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Serious issues

[edit]

There are three big issues with this article. Firstly, it is written in an argumentative style. Secondly, it misrepresents most of its sources. Thirdly, it violates WP:NOTDICTIONARY. Any reason why it should not be deleted? Riposte97 (talk) 01:40, 24 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Riposte97
Yeah, seconded; Would be interested to see what an AfD has to say. Reads to me like a bit of puffery and begins stepping-into Woozle/WP:CIRCULAR territory, as well. I have relatively strong feelings about Wikipedians attempting to police the natural development of language (and I would argue there are at least one or two policies which forbid — or at least heavily restrict — it). That said, your first two points may be addressed via editing. The last point is probably the strongest argument. At the very least — even in the face of WP:CONCISE — I would argue a title change is in order to something like “Use of 'comprised of' in English.” MWFwiki (talk) 10:06, 23 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Including Brian Henderson's username?

[edit]

Though reliable sources (including those used in the page) include Giraffedata as Brian Henderson's username, this is not included on the page. Is there some policy against doing this? I notice that List of Wikipedia people does the same thing by not linking to named editors' user pages. [citation unneeded] (talk) 10:24, 6 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
