Comissioner Grogan succeeded Loeb. See end of Year One, and The Man Who Laughs.

So it was Loeb, Grogan, Gordon, Akins and Gordon again. I guess that means that as time goes by and No Mans Land, Infinite Crisis etc are forgotten, Gordon will have been the perpetual Commissioner of Gotham City Police.Targetonmyback 23:50, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Sarah Essen

Only thing not included was Jim Gordon's presence in Batman:Digital Justice as ancestor to a new Batman, also named Jim Gordon I think. Digital Justice is a Prestige hardcover One-shot that was , I believe, the first entirely computer-generated comic by DC Comics sometime in the early nineties, featuring the Joker as a virus. Plot tag and others

The bulk of the article consists of the FCB and plot dumps for the AV and IOM sections. An actual discussion, with cited secondary sources, of the character is desperately needed.

As far as the AV and IOM:

• The "Alternate versions" section needs to be consolidated down to a bulleted list. One or two line entries for each Elseworld or alternate dimension is unwieldy.
• The points should be succinct overviews, not drawn out retellings of the plot.
• The points can, and really should, be bolstered by material in a real world context. Reviews or critiques that critically examine the character or material from the writer(s) describing how the were going to vary Gordon from the normal Batman stories. These need to be referenced though.
• Cases where the character is only mentioned shouldn't be listed.
• The "In other media" section, though bulleted, has most of the same problems: mass plot dumps, fragmentation, metions as appearances, truly tangential comments, and a need of source commentary.

Inconsistency about Jim Jr's capture

The "James Gordon, Jr." subsection ends with "[...] James Jr. is apprehended by his father and Batman (Dick Grayson) [...]", but the Dick Grayson article is about Robin, not Batman. Plot Summaries of TV episodes

They're really excessive and more suitable to the relevant Wikipedia articles (if any) of the TV shows themselves. They should be trimmed.

For example, instead of belaboring what he does every time he appears in Teen Titans Go!, maybe just mention that he is usually seen with Batman, with the two of them laughing about or at some random inanity in the show. 136.49.32.166 (talk) 21:13, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

Jim Gordon (character) → Commissioner Gordon – We generally prefer natural disambiguation over parenthetical disambiguation in article titles, so moving to a name that doesn't require (character) would be better. Also, in my opinion, this title is the common name. I don't think "Jim Gordon" is nearly as widely used as Commissioner Gordon. Since I know it's going to come up, WP:TITLESINTITLES doesn't apply here; that guideline is part of WP:NCBIO, which doesn't apply to fictional characters since they're not biography pages. There are a bunch of character articles that have titles in them, like Doctor Strange, Mister Fantastic, Miss Marple, and Inspector Lestrade. Ladtrack (talk) 20:49, 25 March 2026 (UTC)

I know technically it is but surely we can be practical about this and bend the rules a little bit. Commissioner Gordon is just as ambiguous because the one in Gotham does become police commissioner in the show, and yet we can recognize that the comic character is clearly the more significant of the two, as the support votes here have shown. If these two were the only two articles titled Jim Gordon, this one would be at the basename. Almost every reader that goes to Jim Gordon (character) is looking for this article. What benefit would there be in sending them all to the disambiguation page (not to mention breaking a bunch of links)? Just to fulfill the letter of the guideline? I know that but surely we can use a little discretion here. Guidelines are "best treated with common sense", and in this case we should consider what would actually be best for the reader instead of flatly applying INCDAB. I've already outlined the likely issues with redirecting Jim Gordon (character) to the disambiguation page, namely that it would harm reader experience and create needless busywork for editors. The comic book character would still be the primary target, thus making "Jim Gordon (character)" the primary redirect because most readers searching for that term are undoubtedly looking for the character overall. The hatnote present in the article would still suffice for those looking for the TV show version. Redirecting it to the DAB entry would disrupt hundred of links and weaken navigation. The only other plausible entries one would be looking for is Jim Gordon (DC Extended Universe) and James Gordon Jr., both redirects to list entries.   No, I don't think so. The comic book character was Commissioner Gordon in his first appearance in 1939 and has been so more or less continuously since then, except for prequel stories and occasional one-off instances. Gotham is essentially a prequel to the Batman stories and as a result, Gordon doesn't start as a police commissioner and doesn't become one until the last season of the show. As a result, referring to him as Commissioner Gordon is wrong for most of the show, so most secondary coverage of the series doesn't use that name. "Jim Gordon" is probably the right common name for that adaptation of the character, but the main one should be Commissioner Gordon. Ladtrack (talk) 21:04, 29 March 2026 (UTC)
