I know this cave first-hand, having been in it. The text as it existed before I added to it yesterday is good text to have. It needs to be put in context. The citation indicates that much of the text came from Horace Carter Hovey (1883-ish) quoted in the Encyclopedia Britannica of 1911. That is good, and I am glad someone did that, but there is much more that can be added to this article, as the history of Colossal Cave did not end, and is, indeed, still going on. I have added names and dates of recent (20th century) discoveries, and included a book citation to the standard reference work on the subject, the book, "The Longest Cave" by Brucker and Watson. I am also aware of the connection between Colossal Cave and the first computer text adventure game by Crowther and Woods. The fact that this cave lives at the informational intersection between computer simulation games and an actual cave leads me to think that this article should maintain its independent existence.

The Hovey source already included, since it is squarely in the public domain, should be enhanced by references by introduction and citation inline: the reference cited (Horace Carter Hovey, a late 19th century Methodist minister and cave fanatic) is worthy of being expanded so it can be read inline, hopefully inspiring other wikipedians to further wikify the article, and perhaps expound on the life and works of Horace Carter Hovey, important 19th century American cave writer.
