Currently, there is no mention that a significant percentage of people, whether academics or not, consider the term "colonialism" to have very strong negative connotations, and even colonizers rarely refer to themselves using this word. Hi, for the examples of currently existing settler colonial states, some inconsistencies exist, as while the settler colonial region of northern ireland is seperate from the non settler colonial Britain, examples are given such as China and Russia, which should specify their settler colonial regions specifically (siberia / north caucasus for russia and west xinjiang / tibet for china) as neither state is entirely a settler colony, similar to the UK. Additionally, taiwan and the Andaman islands should also be included as modern settler states, as they are considered such in other articles, such as the wiki page for settler colonialism for Taiwan. Lastly, latin american states beyond river plate could be considered settler states as well. OliveLotusArePrettyCool (talk) 07:04, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
