Colias electo hecate date correction
[edit]I changed the date from the original listing of 1905 to the correct date of 1900. Markku Savela's website[1], which is referenced by the main page, is incorrect in listing 1905 as the date of Strecker's description of Colias hecate (now Colias electo hecate).
Herman Strecker first mentioned Colias hecate in his 9 March 1900 publication, "Rhopaloceres and Heteroceres, Indigenous and Exotic, Supplement," in the article, List of types in the collection of Lepidoptera of Dr. Herman Strecker (vol. 3, pages 17-37).[2] The description lacks the designation "n. sp.", but it is the first time the species combination appears in print.
Andrew Gray Weeks later published a description of Colias hecate as a favor to Strecker in his 30 June 1900 publication, "Proceedings of the New England Zoological Club" in the article entitled Illustrations of hitherto unfigured Lepidoptera (vol. 2, pages 1-9).[3] This description was written by Strecker and contains the designation of "n. sp.".
Therefore, the correct date for the description of Colias hecate should be 1900.
