Merger proposal
[edit]I propose to merge Cognitive reframing into Cognitive restructuring. I think that the content in the Foo article can easily be explained in the context of Cognitive restructuring, and the Cognitive restructuring article is of a reasonable size that the merging of Cognitive reframing will not cause any problems as far as article size is concerned.
A brief web search suggests these terms are indeed interchangeable. https://positivepsychology.com/cbt-cognitive-restructuring-cognitive-distortions/#definition-cognitive-restructuring https://beckinstitute.org/an-exchange-from-dr-aaron-t-beck-and-dr-amy-cunningham/ Unless a clear citation can be found showing an agreed to difference, we our to remove this article and add "aka cognitive reframing" to the restructuring page.

Recent edits: sourcing and new section
[edit]Hello, as part of my senior capstone, I've made two edits (as of 7/5/2026) to improve this article :
1. I replaced an unsourced claim in the history material about the origin of the term "cognitive restructuring" with a sourced statement, citing Ruggiero et al. (2018).
2. I added a new section, "Relationship to cognitive reappraisal," explaining that the process this article describes is studied in emotion-regulation research under the term cognitive reappraisal, cited to Webb et al. (2012).
I plan to add a few more short, sourced sections (on effectiveness, neural basis, and links to mental health) drawing on recent secondary sources before I consider my edits to be complete. Any feedback or pointers welcome. GioFamularo (talk) 13:25, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
