This is a bit outdated--I think most people are more familiar with Flash applications than with Java applets, and there is research cited by Adobe (the creator of Flash, who obviously has a monetary interest in making the penetration look higher than it is, so someone should track down the source) at []. Applets are "well known" mostly by geeks and other people who have been around the net a long time. I would guess that a lot more people are familiar with flash animations and games than with applets. Michaeljsouth 17:29, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. I've updated this, I found a more recent paper for which I've added a citation, it refers to Flash and JavaScript also. --Npgall (talk) 23:52, 15 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
