If kakapo means night-parrot, what does kakadoo mean?

[edit]

Despite the existence of a chapter named etymology, there is no info about the meaning of the original word in the article, if there was an indegenous one. Such a meaning can be reasonably supposed existing since the kakapo's name is Maori for night parrot. --Ghettobuoy (talk) 13:12, 21 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Replacing the current feature image with a different one?

[edit]

The current version of the Cockatoo article is this photo of a galah. Personally I think that this choice of image is a little incongruous. Can I suggest that we instead have an image that features a variety of different species of cockatoos together, similar to this image that heads the 'Eagle' article. Thoughts on this? Something about cockatoo intelligence?

[edit]

Considering adding most of the content from Tanimbar_corella#Intelligence to this article too, as it seems that this species seems to particularly well-studied in terms of its intelligence. Thoughts? Iloveparrots (talk) 18:28, 20 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Origin of term

[edit]

MalayanGuard: First, the existing reference (OED) does indeed state a Malayan origin but not an Indonesian one, so I have removed that statement. Not that you could be bothered to actually read that, you just waltzed onto revert - twice now. Stop edit-warring. As of currently, the article says exactly what the source says.

Second, your exertions to make sure that all the glory accrues to Malaysia, yeah, even unto the 7th generation, are not wanted. We do not require a doubled-up section just so you can make sure that those sneaky Indonesians don't get away with anything (which appears to be your primary interest in all your editing history). Confine yourself to the sources, omit the editorializing, don't throw around statements like "Indonesian isn't a language" when an article to the contrary is staring you in the face. This is an encyclopedia, not a national pride board. Please see WP:RIGHTGREATWRONGS. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 13:07, 14 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

You’ve got it. Well, I won’t touch the etymology of ‘cockatoo’ again except if you and the others switch malay into Indonesian. MalayanGuard (talk) 13:14, 14 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
