Removal of Danny Brown

I've removed Danny Brown from "Rappers described as cloud rap" because his music isn't cloud rap. The interview cited doesn't describe his music as such either, he's just discussing the genre. —Spiegalr (talk) 17:38, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

It's the wrong tag. Stub is more correct per:

List format for artists

@Ilovetopaint: Some of the notable artists presented and cited only produce cloud rap music and don't necessarily perform it, so isn't it better to clarify in a paragraph format in opposed to a list? --Aleccat 07:02, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

The general consensus is there should be clear criteria for including an article on a list. WP:LISTV Also, referencing each entry in the list is generally unnecessary if the criteria itself is referenced in the article that is linked to. Also, in general a reference should be a secondary source, not a video of a performance of said artist. As it stands now, the big list of links to Youtube videos makes it seem like this article is an attempt to promote the artist in question. --Klaun (talk) 20:12, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

Article name similar to SoundCloud rap

Emo rap contradiction

At the moment, there are two contradictory pieces of information in the infobox, each supported by a different source: Red Bull Music states that cloud rap "borrow[s] elements from … emo rap", while Highclouds lists "nostalgic cloud-rap influenced beats" as a characteristic of emo rap. The question is whether emo rap should be listed as a stylistic origin of cloud rap (per the former source) or as a derivative style (per the latter). At the moment, I am more inclined to favor the second option; from what I have read, articles about emo rap generally set the genre's mainstream breakthrough (mid- to late 2010s) later than those about cloud rap (early to mid-2010s). Earlier Instance of Cloud Rap?

Yes, cLOUDDEAD clearly pioneered the genre long before Viper and Lil B, and I don't know of anything earlier than Clouddead (album) that qualifies even slightly as cloud rap. Just a matter of finding a reliable source to credit. Disagree that Viper shouldn't be included, he was just as instrumental as Lil B in the development of the style, and is, as far as I know, the earliest instance of cloud rap in its full-fledged form as we know it today. Page needs revamp for history

This page definitely needs a revamp from a history perspective, it doesn't feel extensive enough in giving a history for the emergence of cloud rap you had early pioneers like clouddead, viper and then later Lil B, but you also had the wider influence of Yung Lean, Drain Gang, Black Kray, GBC, Xavier Wulf... etc. Which then later gave way for the soundcloud rap scene of the mid-to-late 2010s. Recently seen a lot of people have made good-faith edits in the past to add cloud rap pioneers like Main Attrakionz and Drain Gang but they seem to get removed by admins who have not a clue about what cloud rap is. I mean fair if the claims are unsourced, but it doesn't take long to find a good source to support them and integrate them into the article.
