Ccc's ancestory

[edit]

I am one of Clement Clapton Chesterman's 16 grandchildren. I have corrected the error in my grandfather's ancestory. His parents were William Thomas Chesterman and his second wife, Elizabeth Clapton. The first wife, Caroline Hitchings, died after giving birth to her final son, Stephen. Not only did Elizabeth take on the 3 surviving boys, Paul, Philip and Steven, but also had four more boys of her own. Grandpa was the second one. The first was killed in the first world war.

The wiki page erroneously said that my grandfather's mother was called Anne Greaves, nee Spear. No on both counts!! Anne Greaves Chesterman was William T's mother, and her husband, who was also her second cousin, was called Ezekiel Bickman Chesterman. They moved from Sheffield to Bath because of Anne's poor health; she had T.B.

Spear was the maiden name of my grandmother, Winifred. They met when the entire Chesterman family, two parents and seven sons, got thrown out of the Brethren for refusing to believe in literal hell fire. So they all walked out and went and joined the Baptists instead! Two of the Chesterman brothers married two of the Spear sisters, and a third brother proposed to a third sister, but was turned down. That would have made a hat trick, three brothers marrying three sisters! ~2026-95832-5 (talk) 04:07, 12 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
