As far as i know clay has not been used to manufacture Portland cement. Limestone and heat seems to be the key ingredient in Portland cement manufacturing.172.58.4.145 (talk) 01:05, 22 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Indeed, the raw materials for making clinker are 80 wt.% limestone (CaCO
3
as source of CaO after calcination) and 20 wt.% clay (aluminosilicate as source of SiO
2
and Al
2
O
3
