Population

[edit]

Recent edits to the population figure attempted to change it to that of Claremorris Electoral Division. The standard practice for town and village articles is to use Settlement figures, see e.g. Ballina, Castlebar. Declangi (talk) 08:11, 5 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Weather box

[edit]

It's a fact that less than 1200 hours is very little sunshine hence the term "very cloudy town" Before my edit, there was a statement saying that Claremorris had 1500 hours of sunshine in 2010, which was completely unsourced. Funny how this was never challenged, but an update stating information which can be clearly seen in the weather box gets immediately scrutinized. GN10Gaming (talk) 09:52, 13 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

The thing is, that's normal in that part of Ireland. It's in no way exceptional or unusual. Are you going to add a very cloudy town to every settlement in Ireland because it's low compared to say California? In fact for the entirety of NW Europe, that's relatively normal. Canterbury Tail talk 21:46, 13 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
You're right about that. I wouldn't add it to every town in the area, no. GN10Gaming (talk) 08:56, 14 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
My concern is/was that it is editorial in tone. And, as noted by @Canterbury Tail, implies a comparison that isn't really relevant/supported. Not by the reference at any rate. I would have no concern with replacing the uncited 1500 number with a cited 1200 number. Without the editorial flourish. Guliolopez (talk) 10:23, 14 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Of course. The only issue is that the source only provides mean daily sunshine hours, meaning the yearly sum would have to be calculated. GN10Gaming (talk) 10:33, 14 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
That would make in WP:SYNTH. That makes your edits on Bognor Regis even more interesting, as you are there removing (for the second time) sources that actually state the number of sunshine hours and replace it with a generic unsourced claim. The Banner talk 10:52, 14 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
A generic unsourced claim which is the official Met Office website, which I have linked. Stop throwing accusations around. GN10Gaming (talk) 12:29, 14 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
It is not my mistake that you did not notice that your unsourced claim about Folkestone is about another period than the sourced claim for Bognor Regis. The Banner talk 12:42, 14 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yes it is. You could have checked the 1981-2010 averages on the Met Office website and realised that the article is false. My "unsourced" claim for Folkestone included a link to the official Met Office averages on the website, by the way. GN10Gaming (talk) 12:50, 14 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Twice you removed sources that backed up the claim without giving any sources of your own. The Banner talk 13:47, 14 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Providing sources for what? I just removed an incorrect claim containing an incorrect source, and I proved that it was incorrect with the links provided in the talk section. GN10Gaming (talk) 13:49, 14 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
