There is an error in the description of the plot of this film. It states that it is about an artist “who has lost his inspiration when his muse left him 10 years previously”. If you watch the film, you will note that this is not the case. The artist’s “muse” is his on-and-off lover, Claudia, who is still very much in love with him and who never actually “left him”. She has a business in New York and he lives in Toronto. When he invites her to come to Toronto to visit him, she is eager to go, and at one point tells him, “I have loved you for a long time.”

Also, the end quotation by critic Terry Teachout leaves one with the wrong impression of Richard Burton’s reputation as an actor subsequent to making this film. This was just one critic’s opinion and not factual. Other critics and much of the general public found Richard Burton’s acting in this film to be very good. All one has to go do is read some of the film’s reviews on IMDb, along with the favorable comments on YouTube where the film is shown in its entirety. While it was not Burton’s best film, it certainly did not tarnish his reputation as an esteemed actor nor was his reputation subsequently “in tatters” as Teachout claimed. Just a few years after making this film, Richard Burton received praise for his work as Richard Wagner in the TV series Wagner and subsequently received accolades, nominations, and an award for his performance in the film version of the George Orwell novel 1984.
