Terms Christian fascism and Christofascism

Why was page Christian fascism (that existed for years), redirected to page Christofascism? Term "Christian fascism" is almost old as term "Fascism" itself, and it was in common use since before the Second World War. On the other hand, term "Christofascism" was coined much later (1970) and there we have a problem : some authors are using term "Christofascism" as synonymous to "Christian fascism", while other authors are using the same term in narrower sense, for describing the views of Dorothee Sölle. In its present form, page Christofascism is dedicated to views of Dorothee Sölle. If that is so, then we should restore a separate page that would be dedicated to the phenomenon of Christian fascism in all of its historical, political and religious complexity. Most commenters could not correctly define fascism, it seems. Additionally, there’s little development of this term Christian fascism. Fascism in Christianity? Christians who are or were fascist? Agree. The page says it is a far right ideology, but does not explain what that ideology is. The opening paragraph says its the intersection between Christianity and Fascism, but goes no further. The next segment goes straight into commentary on why it's a bad idea, without defining what views the proponents actually hold. Timzog (talk) 02:24, 5 November 2024 (UTC)

Out of date ideas

Anti-war and human rights activist George Hunsinger, director of the Centre for Barth Studies at Princeton Theological Seminary, regards the very accusation of "fascism" as a sophisticated theological attack on the biblical depiction of Jesus. He believes that the view of Christ which is accused as Christofascist is in fact the real "Jesus Christ as he is depicted in Scripture"

This is a completely different use of the term Christofascist, as Hunsinger was writing in 2001 about an entirely different idea and era. Post-2016, Christofascism is very much a real idea and has loud and vocal adherents who are actively promoting it. I suggest that this entire section be removed as misleading and lacking currency. I think the need for an update extends to the whole article. I was surprised to see that the section on American Christian fascism ends in 2009. I'm sure post-2016 isn't some wholly new current but clearly there's a lot to be said that currently isn't. It shouldn't be too hard to find sources either; this is a fairly well-discussed phenomena in US politics today.

If we don't remove the criticism section it'd probably merit reworking it to make it clear what specifically it's talking about. As written it's sort of unclear in general. I'm not even really sure what to make of it. But if others are having the same problem, that's probably more reason to cut it out. Viv Desjardin (talk, contrib) 04:56, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
