The statement, "He was family friends with his wife and their parents had a hand in their marriage, but he was grateful for her understanding and patience" just doesn't make sense. Maybe he was a friend to his wife's family long before he thought of marrying her, but I think it could be put better. I also don't think saying their parents had a hand in their marriage is necessary. I mean on a good note, whose parents don't have a hand in their marriage?
