Birthplace

It was, and the subject also lived through the entire history of Nazi Germany, which we don't mention at all. No, per WP:EGG we wouldn't do that either. The infobox has to summarise material present in the article. I might like to see more explanation of the various Germanies the subject lived in, but the infobox is not the place for it. Perhaps his birthplace, in the Weimar Republic, should be made clear in the text, just as a fact. Nazi Germany might also warrant a mention, if it impacted on his life. Martinevans123 (talk) 07:53, 9 May 2025 (UTC)

late to this: I don't agree. We say German, Germany, and it means the various forms during his life. Neither Weimar Republic nor Nazi Germany was a country (nor East Germany). He was a baby in the first, and a child in the second. Upper Lusatia is the region where he grew up, therefore I mentioned that, while Saxony - while technically correct - seems too broad to be meaningful for his biography. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:28, 9 May 2025 (UTC)

I see. I typically try to link historical states in the infobox: some countries of birth no longer exist, like the USSR, for example. If the infobox is meant to only ever summarise what's in the text, then maybe Upper Lusatia is needed there, instead of Saxony? No strong view either way. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:40, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
