What about dichlorophenols, trichlorophenols, tetrachlorophenols and pentachlorophenol? Aatomic1 (talk) 08:50, 12 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Nomenclature

[edit]

I think some text should be added about the IUPAC rule exception for substituted phenols dictating that the hydroxyl group gets the highest priority, e.g. number 1. It is no coincidence that monochlorophenol and tetrachlorophenol both have 3 positional isomers. The same is true about dichlorophenol and trichlorophenol both having 6 positional isomers. These two sets are sort of inverse where the chloro groups become hydro groups and vice versa. Simon de Danser (talk) 19:39, 12 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
