From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The information relating to Chippy Simmons being the leading scorer in the First Division in the 1901-02 season needs to be amended.

[edit]

The last sentence of the narrative about Chippy Simmons states: "He became the top scorer in First Division 1901–02 by scoring 23 goals." In fact, this occurred in the Second Division, when he was playing for West Bromwich Albion, who won the Second Division title that season. This is supported in the Wikipedia page for the 1901-02 Football League Season (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1901%E2%80%9302_Football_League#Second_Division) in the Second Division stats box.
