Addition of Online Abuse to the page
[edit]In an increasingly technological world, the internet has created a new venue for the abuse of children in various forms. I believe that online abuse against children should be considered a subsection of child abuse, thus I propose an addition to the child abuse wikipedia page found here. Online abuse of children takes various forms, from cyberbullying to sexual abuse via webcams and pornography etc. I would like to add the subsection of online abuse as follows.
1. Online abuse as type 2.5 under the subsection “types” a. Cyberbullying as the first topic, seeing as it is the most common form of online abuse and most widely known
i. Forms it takes
1. Social media, texting etc. 2. catfishing
ii. Statistics
iii. Impact
iv. Laws surrounding the matter
b. Sexual abuse as a second topic
i. Forms
1. Pornography 2. unsolicited sexual images 3. webcam abuse
ii. statistics
iii. impact
iv. laws
c. Grooming as the third topic
i. Forms
1. Chatrooms 2. Social networks
ii. Statistics
iii. Impact
iv. Laws

Inaccurate definition and redirect for "Child Endangerment"
[edit]The current redirect from "Child endangerment" to this article is inadequate because the terms are distinct legal concepts, and the current text does not clarify the difference.
Currently, the lead sentence states that child abuse is also known as child endangerment. Legally, this is incorrect.
Child abuse requires actual physical, emotional, or sexual harm. In contrast, child endangerment is the crime of placing a child in a high-risk situation where harm could happen, regardless of whether actual injury occurs (e.g., DUI with a minor, leaving a toddler unattended).[1]
Per Wikipedia's redirect policy (WP:R), a redirect should not confuse readers or lead to an article that fails to explain the term.
I propose we do one of the following:
Update this article: Remove the claim that they are synonymous, add a specific section defining "Child endangerment," and update the redirect to link directly to that section.
or
Create a separate stub: Turn the "Child endangerment" redirect into a standalone article focusing on the legal definitions, elements of the crime, and jurisdiction-specific examples.
I would appreciate feedback from other editors on the best path forward. I am happy to help draft the content or create the stub.

- Update: I have just removed the phrase "also known as child endangerment" from the lead sentence of this article. Leaving it in place creates a false equivalence that misinforms readers on a critical legal distinction.
- Furthermore, I discovered that an independent article for Endangerment already exists on Wikipedia. This is a far more fitting target for the "Child endangerment" redirect, as it deals directly with the reckless creation of risk rather than actualized harm. To resolve this properly according to Wikipedia policy, I propose the following plan, which I am willing to execute:
- Retarget the Redirect: Change the redirect for Child endangerment so it points to the Endangerment article instead of this one.
- Expand the Target Article: I will personally improve the Endangerment article by adding a dedicated, robust sub-section specifically for "Child Endangerment." This section will outline the exact legal criteria, mens rea (recklessness/negligence), and how it differs from active child abuse.
- Maintain Clean Cross-References: Once the redirect is updated, we can simply add a "See also" link or a brief, accurate note text in this article to point readers toward the Endangerment page if they are looking for the risk-based legal charge.
- This approach satisfies Wikipedia:Redirect by ensuring readers land on an article that actually explains the concept they searched for, without relying on inaccurate synonyms in the lead of this article.
- I welcome any feedback on this adjusted plan before I begin updating the redirect and expanding the Endangerment page. Serienjunkie2014 (talk) 09:59, 31 July 2026 (UTC)
- Update: I redirected the term Child endangerment to the article Endangerment after waiting for consensus and no editor opposed my suggestion. I added a "see also" link to this article. Serienjunkie2014 (talk) 08:19, 10 August 2026 (UTC)
