The book used this form of the name (with the l) in two separate pages of the text, and in the index list. Also your google search provides a case for Michael Whitby using the form "Chilbuldius" in a text. I don't know about the original source, but this form seems to be in use in modern scholarship. The only primary source mentioned in the PLRE is Procopius and in his works we can only find Chilbudios (Χιλβούδιος). Who but a tiny minority of modern scholars uses this name? Only ~1% of the books indexed by Google have Chilbuldius instead of Chilbudius. From the four books mentioning the former, one is from the first half of the 19th century and other two are one and the same (CAH). None of the three books is specifically about Procopius, nor discusses this episode at length. To be sure, Michael Whitby is the only recent author mentioning this "Slav Chilbuldius" and nothing more! How is this "in use"? Daizus (talk) 11:38, 29 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
