He was a «mousquetaire noir» / "black musketeer" (which means that he belonged to a company riding black horses, not to the other company having grey ones). The violinist who thought he might have black skin mistranslated "mousquetaire noir". What does this mean: " . . . but later he pretended to be one of Jean-Jacques Rousseau's pupils because he shared the man's opinions and purported to be extremely sensitive"? Meude-Monpas was sensitive, or Rousseau was sensitive? And what does being sensitive have to do with it? If there was a citation, it would add clarity, but there is none.
