Three-check chess

There was one a couple years ago. After discussion, it was redirected to the list of chess variants, where it's covered, due to lack of secondary source coverage. — Rhododendrites ^talk \\ 16:36, 15 June 2020 (UTC)

An article on Three-check chess existed until July 2018, when a deletion discussion decided it should be changed to a redirect. You can see the final version of the article before this redirection here. This redirection happened after a user who has served several blocks vehemently took against how the rules of the game were written and caused a lot of disruption - the article seemingly got redirected as a way to neuter the source of disruption. In my opinion (which has not changed since the discussion) this redirection was a very bad decision and I would support you in getting the article reinstated. I generally think we have far too many article on chess variants, but, because it is played extensively, I believe Three-check is one of the variants worthy of an article. --LukeSurl ^{t c} 16:44, 15 June 2020 (UTC)

Rename to plural

We have list of chess variants and Category:Chess variants, and the concept is plural - this article doesn't describe "a" chess variant, but the concept of all variants. I propose renaming this (and Shogi variant) to plular (chess variants, shogi variants). _{Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here} 04:21, 16 June 2021 (UTC)

• Oppose. While this article does not describe any singular chess variant, the concept of "chess variant" is singular and each variant exists independently. It's the same why we have an article called board game, not board games. JIP | Talk 12:24, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

Chess variant → Chess-like gamesChess-like games – The current title feels a bit narrow since it somewhat labels these games as 'variants' of Western chess. I'm wondering if the page should instead reflect a "class of board games" unless we want to make the idea it's own separate article? Also I came up with that title from the top of my head. Oppose - the scope of this article, as defined in the lead, is variants of chess. There are separate articles for Shogi variants and Xiangqi variants. One could make an article encompassing the wholeChaturanga family, but it should not be done by renaming or re-scoping this article. LukeSurl ^t c 13:38, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
