Rabar's system
[edit]Braslav Rabar also invented a system around the same time as Elo did, but FIDE choose Elo's. Even if it wasn't used it should be mentioned in some capacity. 213.149.51.126 (talk) 16:05, 13 February 2019 (UTC)
Rating inflation / rating deflation
[edit]Right now this article says nothing about whether ratings have inflated or deflated over time. In other words, is a 1500 or 2000 rating in 2021 the same strength as it was in 1971 or 1921?
I am thinking about adding something about this, but would like to discuss what the article should say.
The question of whether ratings have inflated or deflated for the average player may have a different answer from the question of whether ratings have inflated or deflated for top player.

Questions about Harkness example
[edit]Currently, the section on the Harkness system gives this example:
- A player with a rating of 1600 plays in an eleven-round tournament and scores 2½–8½ (22.7%) against competition with an average rating of 1850. This is 27.3% below 50% (50–22.7%), so their new rating is 1850 − (10 × 27.3) = 1577.
The player played 11 games, so why isn't the calculation 1850 - (11 x 27.3)?
As a secondary question, the player's pre-tournament rating of 1600 doesn't seem to enter into the calculation. This implies that a player's entire history of rated games, possibly stretching back years and encompassing hundreds of games, is completely ignored, with his or her new rating depending solely on the outcome of this one tournament.
