Name of article

[edit]

I assume someone misspelled the name of this article, as it was called Cheshunt [sic] over 2000 years ago, I shall create a disambiguation for Chestnut.

HTH, Joe :-)

Update: 1249pm I've updated the Chestnut (disambiguation) page to let everyone searching for the town where it can be found // Joe

Humorous Vandalism

[edit]

User:Lithepanther added two sections, on nightlife and cuisine. They were funny but were parody, so unfortunately I had to remove them. Maybe they should be added to somewhere like www.uncyclopedia.org ? RossMM 12:30, 12 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hmmn. I would say that both sections actually present a faithfully objective view on Cheshunt and astute social commentary based on 100% factually accurate and congruous information (and if you've been to Cheshunt, with comparably no more licence with the truth than any of the other articles posted on Wikipedia)!!! Still, Thank you for the link to uncyclopaedia.Lithepanther 15:10, 12 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Accurate commentary should be sourced really. See WP:CITE, WP:V and WP:RS. Simply south 17:05, 12 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Theological colleges

[edit]

I think the article is confused; I suspect Bishop's College was Anglican, and nothing to do with the Cheshunt College that moved to Cambridge in c. 1905. Sjoh0050 (talk) 22:11, 15 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Major Overhaul of the Cheshunt Article – Feedback Welcome!

[edit]

Hi all,

I've recently done a full rewrite and expansion of the Cheshunt article to bring it up to a higher standard — ideally aiming towards Featured Article (FA) quality. It’s now much more detailed, better sourced, and up to date with recent developments in the town. I tried to align this articles structure with FA articles of other towns.

Further input/suggestions to improve it further would be great! ForayHistory (talk) 15:36, 4 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

I have feedback. See my edit summaries. And your user talk page. In short, much of the content added:
  • appears to be based on output from an LLM (like ChatGPT or similar). Which appears to have hallucinated more than a few references and generated empty/promotional editorial. See WP:LLM for when/where using LLMs to generate new content can be an issue. Especially when the output is not verified for accuracy and compliance with NPOV and related norms.
  • contains flowery/promotional editorial. Much of which is not attributed (to anyone) or supported (by the references placed alongside). While there are multiple examples, obvious ones include:
  • "Cheshunt in the 21st century balances its historical heritage with suburban growth and urban regeneration". How so? What supports this editorial?
  • "[The opening of on hotel in 2020] reflects Cheshunt's shift towards boutique hospitality and design-led redevelopment". Says who? The linked source doesn't make this claim (or attribute this clearly subjective opinion to anyone).
  • includes references where the "access date" was changed from a prior date to a relatively recent date. But a majority of these links have been dead for some time. (And so it doesn't seem that they were accessed/verified as the updated dates imply).
  • contains more than a little promotional editorial. For example
  • "[The local Travelodge] provides budget-friendly accommodation options for travellers [..] and features an on-site restaurant and bar, free parking, and accessible rooms, catering to both leisure and business guests". Could this be any more promotional? Why are we promoting its "budget-friendly accommodation" and "free parking" and stating that these things cater "to both leisure and business guests"? Why not: "[The local Travelodge] provides accommodation and an on-site restaurant and bar". Full stop? What is with the promotional flourishes?
  • "[A local business park] has become a focal point for industrial and technological growth [..and its enterprise centre..] offers flexible office spaces, meeting rooms, and a range of business support services". Again, except for semi-promotional reasons, why are we listing bookable meeting rooms and photocopying/mail handling as if any of this has material or lasting encyclopedic relevance to the town?
Just adding more text (especially additional editorial or other content generated using LLMs) is not a particularly useful if the goal is FA status. Guliolopez (talk) 22:12, 4 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
