  • "In Hubei, the movement was led by Zou Pusheng, a blacksmith; Xu Shouhui, a street vendor; and Peng Yingyu, a peasant who served as its principal ideologue." If possible, give the Chinese characters for Zou Pusheng and Peng Yingyu.
  • "In early 1360, Chen declared himself King of Han". I noticed that the character Han in the name of Chen Han is the same as that of the Han dynasty. Is there any particular significance behind this shared name?
    • You're right that the term "Han" is associated with the Han dynasty, and after its collapse, many regimes claimed the name "Han" to legitimize their rule. In this case, however, I simply haven't found a reliable source explaining why Chen Youliang adopted the dynastic name "Han".
  • "He also elevated his brothers by granting them princely titles". How many brothers were there in total?
    • In the central government, Ch'en's chief counselor (丞相), Chang Pi-shien 張必先, and Grand Marshal (太尉) Chang Ting-pien 張定邊 had probably been his followers. Hsü's old associate, the messianic sectarian Tsou P'u-sheng (see Hsü Shou-hui), continued in the office of grand preceptor. He gave the title of prince to each of his brothers.
  • "Although the Nanchang garrison, led by Zhu Wencheng and Deng Yu". Give the Chinese characters for these names.
  • "On 3 October, Chen decided to attempt a breakout." He attempted to flee the scene of the battle?
  • "Zhu was ready with fire ships set adrift, scattering the Han ships so that clusters of ships engaged in combat far from each other." Could you please reword so that readers understand who the combatants were: Han ships fighting against other Han ships or attacks between Zhu and Han forces?
